I know what it’s like to thrive under pressure
[and what happens when you burn out]
I’m Alan Stracey, ADHD Coach and founder of WhereFocusGoes.
I started coaching after a 20+ year career in the creative industries left me nearly terminally burned out – but an ADHD diagnosis at 40 years old gave me a new lease of life.
That diagnosis explained why I could manage chaos and complexity with ease, but struggled with the basics others found effortless. And why, despite success, life felt exhausting.
After leaving my Managing Director role and retraining as a Coach, I started to build systems that work for my brain, and now work with performance-minded adults to do the same: harness their ADHD as a strength, and succeed in high-pressure environments without burning out.
I don’t believe that ADHD, or any other form of Neurodivergence is a ‘superpower’ – I know just how difficult life can be when you hold yourself up to the impossible standards set by a Neurotypical world.
But I don’t believe either that it should stop you from doing what you set out to do. The key thing once you have the right diagnosis is to DO. THE. WORK.
Understand how your ADHD shows up for YOU. We’re all different and the way ADHD affects each of us is as unique as our fingerprints.
I know what’s worked for my ADHD because I’ve put the work in: alone, and also with the support of friends, family and with my own ADHD coach.
I also know just how overwhelming it is, getting that diagnosis after so much doubt, shame and negativity.
But you have a choice:
You can use ADHD as your EXCUSE for why you CAN’T
OR
The REASON for how you DID
It’s your call
